Soil for Farming Bean
Loamy and sandy loamy soil is perfect for bean farming. Much like okra and eggplant, bean is also sensitive and cannot tolerate water logging. So, we need to select the soil very carefully.
Time of Sowing the Seeds
The seeds must be sowed within the last two or three weeks of rainy season. The seeds have a strong cover and they are very hard in nature. So, germination may be at late. Sometimes the germination is totally damaged for want of water.
Amount of Seeds
The amount of seeds will relay on the method we will follow to sow them. If we want to sow in row, we need 15 kg seed for per hector. If we sow in the seed holes, we need 4-5 seeds per hole.
Preparing the Land
If it is farmed in a large area, the land must be ploughed for 3-5 times and the land needs to be leveled with ladder. Not to mention that the land must be weeds free.
Distance and Fertilize of the Seed Holes
Every seed hole must be at the distance of 3 meter from each other. For every seed hole, we must apply 10 kg cow dung, 200 gm oil cake, 100 gm TSP and 50 MOP. We will apply the dose preparing the seed holes. Also we need to apply 50 gm urea and 50 gm MOP at per hole after the seedlings come out for 14-21 days.
Method of Producing the Seedlings
4-5 seeds are sowed at per holes and the seeds must be kept in the water for 10-12 hours before using in the land. 2-3 seedlings is granted at every holes and the extra seedlings are uprooted from the holes for better growth of the seedlings and expected production.
Attendance
We must be careful so that the water cannot be logged at the bottom of the seedlings. When it is summer or dry season, we need to irrigate the plant as well. The soil at the bottom of the plat must be loose with hoe. At the same time, when the seedlings will rise to a height of 15-20 cm, a supporting bamboo stick should be provided so that the herbs can grow smoothly. Soon after that, we must lift the seed holes as beans are farmed on scaffold.
Insect Management
The most harmful insect for bean is the drilling insect and aphids. When the flower blooms, the tripods might harm. Again, when the vegetable becomes matured enough and the seeds are of proper shape and size, bean pod bug can damage a lot. Following IPM method, we can fix such a situation.
Disease Management
Bean is almost free from disease. However, anthracnose can hamper the production.
Collecting the Vegetable
20-30 days after the flower blooms, the beans vegetable starts to grow. The plant gives vegetable more than 4 months. We can collect 10-15 tons of beans at per hector.
Nutrition of Beans
